Antonio Perrelli

Global health advocate

“Global health is a complex field, encompassing endless areas of knowledge. For too long, this complexity has been used to perpetuate neocolonialism and centralize decision making in the Global North. A new global health agenda must be drafted, and it must reflect the needs of all people. As a member of the access to medicines team, I believe that ensuring access to medicines in the Global South constitutes a crucial segment of this paradigm shift.”

Antonio is part of the access to medicines team at Wemos. As a global health advocate, he focuses on manufacturing capacity of medical products in Africa, transparency of the markets of medicines, vaccines, and other health products, and Pandemic Preparedness and Response.

Prior to joining Wemos, Antonio worked as a research assistant at Global Health Advocates, producing evidence to support advocacy goals in the field of transparency of the markets of pharmaceutical products and Pandemic Preparedness and Response. More specifically, he carried out research on the implementation of the WHA 72.8 resolution, multi-country initiatives such as Beneluxa, the COVAX pillar of the ACT-A collaboration, tiered pricing mechanisms for essential medicines, TRIPS waiver and TRIPS flexibilities. He also examined the drafting process of the Pandemic Accord and the International Health Regulations amendments.

Antonio is completing a PhD on the Decolonization of Global Health Governance in the context of Public Health Emergencies of International Concern. He also holds a master’s degree in Law.
