Programme coordinator Human Resources for Health

Aysel is part of Wemos’ Human Resources for Health team. She coordinates programmes on health workforce mobility issues in the European region.

Before joining Wemos, Aysel worked in the health workforce development department of the regional office of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the Eastern Mediterranean, serving 22 countries. Within her role, Aysel worked on activities to build regional evidence base as well as in-depth analysis of strategies to strengthen human resources for health. She was the focal point for COVID-19 and support of the health workforce. This included managing the surveillance on infected health workers, and coordinating projects such as diaspora engagement for the COVID-19 response in the region.

Prior to that, Aysel worked in the governmental and private sector, including for the National Health Service in the UK. She has a degree in Biomedical Sciences from Essex University and a Public Health Masters from Imperial College London. She also obtained a certificate on human resources for health from the KIT Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam.

“At Wemos, we aim to hold accountable the decision makers, creating opportunities for policy dialogues and urge them to make the required changes. The European health workforce migration and mobility is an area of work that needs to be delicately handled. Without compromising the freedom of movement, it is key to find a fit-for-purpose solution to mobility issues of the health sector. I am passionate to be working at an organisation that is so determined and active to make a difference on such complex yet important matter.”
