Royal distinction for Wemos founder Wilbert Bannenberg

3/7/2020 - News

Wemos’ co-founder Wilbert Bannenberg has officially received his royal distinction from the mayor of Bergeijk today. In April, during the annual royal honour day, Wilbert was awarded the Dutch royal honour title of ‘Officer in the Order of Oranje-Nassau’ for his lifetime work on access to medicines.

In 1979, Wilbert co-founded the Werkgroep Medische Ontwikkelingssamenwerking – i.e. Wemos – with several other medical students. That was the start of his career which he dedicated to health and access to medicines. He went on to establish Health Action International, E-Drug and Stichting Farma Ter Verantwoording (or Pharmaceutical Accountability Foundation). At our 40th anniversary congress we looked back on our organisation’s history, and to the future, with former staff as well as many new and familiar faces. A history that started thanks to Wilbert!

Wilbert, congratulations with your royal distinction!
