“This lawsuit is of great significance. This is the first time a health insurer in the Netherlands has filed a lawsuit against a pharmaceutical company for incorrectly adhering to a patent.” This is what global health advocate Ella Weggen said in the programme EenVandaag, about the ruling of the trial Menzis vs. AstraZeneca, which has been scheduled for June 24th [editor note: update August 2020 – see below].

Joint call to next European Parliament: ensure access to medicines

A group of 12 public health organizations from the European Union urges prospective Members of the European Parliament to safeguard access to affordable medicines. Wemos and Health Action International (HAI) jointly took the initiative for this call. We see that access to new medicines is increasingly under pressure in the EU due to sky-high prices. Read more

Reflection on debate Dutch global health strategy

Yesterday, the Committee on Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation debated the Dutch global health strategy. Wemos welcomes the focus on issues such as sexual and reproductive health and rights, and fair access to medical products worldwide, but also hopes that the incoming government will continue to recognize the importance of global health.
